When connecting to the PLC over USB, you will be prompted to install the USB driver. Luckily I found that our company had an old licenced copy of GX Developer-FX, version 8.00. I found that GX Developer-FX can make a connection with the FX3S PLC using a direct USB connection which is much easier, just using a normal mini-USB cable.

We normally use an SC-09 serial cable to program these PLCs and should still work.

I chose to install the Medoc import tool, which was later necessary. I moved it directly to the C: drive and was able to install it fine then. The solution I finally found was that the file address was too long, since the installer was in my download folder. The installer simply wouldn't run when I clicked on it. All you have to do is find the dll file it adds to the temp folder during la and open this with notepad.
